Last augost, I was in England because I am an english teacher and I have to visit the British culture.
I was in Folkestone in the southeast of england, Folkestone is famous for his harbour and for the eurochannel. In Folkestone you can see France.
I was in a bad family, the mother was very unfriendly with me, her called was Ms Jackie Blacksaw and the address was Milestone close street in Folkestone.

Public school or Private school?

Hello everybody

I think this topic is very interesting because,what do you prefer: public school or private school?.
When I was a child I went to private school and I think the level was good and the teachers get us individual attention. Later I went at public high school and I felt different I had more freedom, more level but the teachers don´t get me individual attention. This is my experience. Tell me your experience and your opinion, please.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both public and private schools.For example:I´ll start with public school:
Public Schools tend to have more services, and maybe the teachers have more qualifications,or what do you think?. In addition, Public schools offer more opportunities in terms of programs such as foreign languages, sports, music and the arts, etc. They have more teachers, more money, more space, and therefore more resources.
In contrast there are many drawbacks:
Public schools normally put as many kids in a class as they legally can and it is a problem and appear the behavioral problems.

The advantages of private schools are:

Private schools tend to have smaller teacher to student ratios and it is better for the child´s education and Private schools often do have sports outside of school as well, depending on the size of the school. One important point is the parent participation.

But there are many disadvantages, for example:Private schools are not required to use state curriculum, the teachers is less qualifications,private school are´nt free.

HI everybody!

This week i´d like to speak about teaching through games in primary school. I think this topic is interesting for future teachers.

When we work with pupils we must make the lessons very interesting, for example we have to use games. With games children are concentrate and they learn more and better. Don´t you?.

Some characteristic of the games are:
1 They provide extra motivation to learn the target language.
2 This games are according with theirs ages.
3The lessons become less teacher orientated and more student orientated
4 the games help to create a good atmosphere between pupils.
5 Choose a game that will let them practice their target language.

A new game is Mushi Battle Game

The instructions are ::
First of all you need some cards with pictures of various creepy crawlies on them, you can use your own.

The steps:
1. Give each kid 4 or 5 mini cards.
2. They fan them out so other people can see how many cards they have, but can't see what's on them
.3. The children find a partner.
4. The first kid asks "What's that?" whilst pointing to one of their opponent's cards.
5. The other kid answers
.6. The kid who just answered points to one of the cards from the first kid and asks "What's that?"
7. This child answers.
9. The winner takes the loser's card and adds it to their fan of cards.
10. They go around asking different people until someone has a full set of 8 cards, then they are the winner!!
11. If anyone runs out of cards, they come and ask the teacher who has an infinite supply!

Hi everybody!

How are you? I´m fine because I finished the university and now I´m on holidays. Therefore, this is my topic.

To be on holidays is wonderfull, you have spare time for doing things you like.
For example some advantages are that you can go to the swimming pool, to the disco or to the beach. And the most important point you can sleep all the time you want. It´s great!.
Moreover the weather let you go out to the places without cold.

Spain is a good country for travelling because there are nice beachs and the weather is fantastic.

The worst point is and the end of the holidays, some researchs say that you can fall down, and I think .... it´s true. And you.

But no problem, now we must enjoy of the summer.

MADRID 2012: A DREAM

Hi everybody!

I´d like to speak about the olimpic games.
In Spain the news that Madrid was candidate for the celebration of the olimpic games was a great news.

Spanish people were enthusiastic about this and Madrid was the most beautiful city. People wore red t-shirt in the middle with "Madrid 2012.

In addition, Madrid has demostrated to be a big city very competitive and in the future, Spain needs the games for that the world sees our country and our city.The tourists can see the sights of Madrid: the museums, parks, squares etc... It´s worderful!

I think our city should be the next winner because we are fantastic!

GAYS MARRIAGES

In Spain there is a important new about legalising the marriage between gays.
Spain are debating to legalise these marriages because the Civil Code which states that marriage is an act carried out between "husband and wife".

In the other hand the goal is that the gays can adopt children. This new has created several debates.

I think it´s homofobic no wedding allowed and I think that we would beome open-minded with them

This week I have read a news in the bbc. The new says that:
"School uniform grants introduced.Low-income families in Wales are to be given £85 towards the cost of buying school uniform for their children"

In England pupils wear uniform.I don´t agree with children wear uniform because They don´t show their personality and these uniforms are expensive andsome families don´t have money to pay uniforms.

In Spain the rule in some private schools is wear uniform but I think that the advantage of this is that student don´´t feel well when they wear it and they can hate the shool for this.

What´s your opinion about this?

Last week, I made a work about how to teach rhythm:

We know that the differences between english rhythm and spanish rhythm is that English is stress-timed rhythm. When there is a stress word, the speaker increases the volume of their voice.
The sound of unstress syllables is “schwa”
Spanish is syllable-t¡med stress. The syllable have the same intonation.

We can teach the rhythm throuth nursery rhymes:
The nursery rhymes are texts with rhyme, like that, songs and short poems.
For example:

Rain is like train without a T.
East is like beast without a B.
Love is like glove without a G.
Hair is like chair without a C.

THE CONTENT WORDS AND FUNCTIONAL WORDS ARE:

The content words are the stress words, like that, noums, verbs adjetives, adverbs.
1 step: In a song the pupils underline the stress words.
The funcion words are the unstress words, like that, article, prepositions, auxiliary verbs and pronouns.
2 step: The teacher explain them that there are unstress words.
Some words have strong and weak forms in different contexts.
3 step: The teacher puts examples the word, such as, “and” or “of” in different contexts.

HOW TO TEACH THE STRESS PATERN:

The students listen these words:
Sunday, pencil, motor.
The teacher says this stress patterns: “dadi, dadi, dadi”.
And he puts the emphasis in the “da” and he indicates the rhyme with his hand.
Later, the teacher writes the words in the blackboard and he point to the accents of different ways:
Example: Sunday, pencil, MOtor.

There are some methods about this.

Hello everybody!

I have found this new in the BBC:

Women's rights in Kuwait
Hundreds of protesters in Kuwait have held a women's rights protest outside the country's all-male parliament.
The assembly is debating a government request to speed up the passage of a law on women's rights, which was approved by the cabinet last May.
But most Islamic groups in Kuwait are against granting women political rights and the parliament has twice defeated similar measures in recent years.
Should the Kuwaiti authorities do more to improve women's rights in the country? Do you live in Kuwait and are you involved in the protests?.

On my view, I think the woman in Kuwait are capacity for vote. Because they are important in the society and theirs opinion it´s very interesting.
Kuwaiti women must be allowed to vote and be involved in the political process of their country.
This woman need freedom, they can help her country.

Before of all, I `d like to say thanks to the people read my blog and my english teacher because I´m so timid and in the blog I can tell something without timid.

Next month, we are going to be on hollyday and we could visit England. I`ve been looking for interesting places to visit in England. For example:

Britain contains a famous history from the legend of King Arthur and the Holy Grail to the mistery Stonehende. We can take a journey through Britain and see magnifient castles, monuments, fantastic garden and royal residences.

Companies look for the succes of a new product and they use questionnaires to find out information about consumers.
Advertising agencies employ psychologists to analise potential consumers of a product. They put the packets of different-coloured because it look more attractive.
The advertising has a strong influence on children because they want to buy toys and sweet all the time.

The advertising is going to become persuasive they want you feel good when you buy the product.But What about you? What about the brands?

I think, some brands are too expensive but the quality is better than other products. And you, What do you think?

THE FAMILY IN BRITAIN

THE FAMILY

The typical family in Britain headed by two parent, but this is changing during the twentieth century.There has been a rise in the number of single person.

In the past, people get married and stayed married, but with the divorce many couples without getting married.

Moreover people are generally getting marries at later age now and many women don`t want have children immediately. They prefer to concentrate in their jobs and put off having a baby until late thirties,

The numbers of single parents are increasing.

I think this isn`t different to Spain.

I want to write about birthdays in Britain.

Children invite special people to their party though sending birthday cards .The birthday child will have a party with their friend and family and the visitors to the party bring presents for the child birthday. The present are opened as soon as the children are awake.

In the party children play games such as musical chairs but nowadays, parties tend to sleepovers.

The birthday cake is decorated with a theme there is a candle for each year.

It used to be traditional children have bumps. The number of the bumps given is the age of the child plus one for extra good luck.

ADVANTAGES AND DISAGVANTAGES TO BE A NATIVE ENGLISH TEACHER OR NON-NATIVE TEACHER

Hi everybody:

My opinion about this topic is

There are some advantages and disagvantages to be a English teacher.
Some advantages are that a native teacher can teach the accent and pronunciation better than us, Moreover a native teacher can emphasis the speaking, practise the oral interaction between their pupils or between teacher and pupils. I think the goal of a native teacher is develop the speaking ability.
Other important point is that a native teacher can teach tht lifestyle, their english customs.

In the other hand, there are many disadvantages. A native teacher doesn`t know the typical mistakes of the spanish children and this native teacher doesn`t know the interferences between mother tongue to target language. Moreover they don`t know the cultural differences between Spain or England.

On my view, Of course I prefer the non-native teacher because we know our spanish children and we can motivate them better than native teacher.

-British people place considerable value on punctuality. People make great effort to arrive on time. It is often considered impolite to arrive even a few minutes late.

-"Drop in anytime" and "come see me soon" are idioms often used in social setting. Moreover you never accept an invitation unledd you really plan to go. Then you may refuse by saying "Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come".

-DRESS. Everyday dress is appropiate for most visits to people home.

THE ENGLISH SCHOOLS FEATURES:

-AT WHAT AGE DO CHILDREN START SCHOOL IN ENGLAND?

The statutory school age in England and Wales is from 5 to 16 years. English children enter the reception class (first grade) of primary school in the next term after their fifth birthday.
They attend primary school for seven years, where they study English, arithmetic, science, religious, education, history, geography, music, art, physical education and information technology.

-WHAT DIFFERENT TYPES OF SCHOOLS ARE THERE IN ENGLAND?

There are schools run by the Government. These schools are known as State Schools and parents don´t pay.
Ninety percent of children in England and Wales attend a state school.
There are also private schools. Parents pay for their children.

WHEN ARE SCOOL VACATIONS?

The summer vacation lasts for about 6 weeks from July 20 to September 4, winter and spring vacation both last two weeks, from December 21 to around January 6 and March 25 to around April 5.

DO CHILDREN WEAR A SCHOOL UNIFORM?

Most school in England require children to wear a school uniform.

HOW LON IS THE SCHOOL DAY?

-Don´t prepare your exams last days.
-Sleep a lot.
-organize your time.
-Self-confident.

It´s very difficult to say thank in a letter because I have a lot people for to say thank.

In second place I´d say thank to my friends because they enjoy my life. When I feel bad, they help me.

READING FOR CHILDREN!

HELLO EVERYBODY!

Last week, I read an article in the magazine "English Teaching Professional" about how choose a book for children? How can I teach to read?

First of all, we must create motivation for reading. Moreover, we must choose a book specifically for children learning english as a foreing language.

You have to consider some things:

- Don´t choose BIG BOOK, because our children are small.
- Do you want readers have EXTRAS like that, videos or tapes?
- Genre is very important, fiction or non-fiction.
- Do you want a book ILLUSTRATIONS for your children with pictures or black and white?
- Finally, It`s very important the LANGUAGE. The language could be simple or complex.

In the second phase, I write about different reading activities:

1. CLASS READING
One option is that the learners in the class are reading the same book but in different time.
Other option is that whole class are reading the same book together.

2. GROUP READING
One way of reading books is that the children are reading different books. They choose their books but you can adapt it for them.

In my opinion, we have to motivate to our learners for reading but we have to adapt their books.

VOLCANOES

Yesterday, I saw a documentary in the television about volcanoes and I think this topic is interesting.
There are about 600 active volcanoes on the Earth and 50 volcanoes erupt every year. Moreover volcanic eruptions are unpredictable. For ewample:
Mount Vesovius is the most important volcano.
This volcano erupted violently and buried the Roman city of Pompeii, killing theirs inhabitants. Nowadays, there is an evacuation plan for an eruption.
The island of Hawaii have a line of volcanoes. Despite the danger, people live on the sides of active volcanoes.
Finally, although scientist take care the volcanic activity.In contrast It will probably that some volcano erupt.

HOLY WEEK

This week we celebrate the Holy week. I´ll write about Holy week in my town, Torrijos.
First of all, Holy Week isn`t very important in my town because we have two processions: Thursday and Friday evening.
The processions go through the main streets. There are four fraternities and you can hear the celestial music of the numerous bands and drums.
In addition, in the processions you can see Christ and Virgin.
Finally, the procession finishs in the church.
I like the processions of Torrijos.
